Large German wholesaler selling exclusive foods to professionals now offers Danish gourmet ice cream and sorbet
In 2021, we at Kastbergs cautiously dipped our toes into the German ice cream and sorbet market for the food professional sector. We started with a couple of local food wholesalers focusing on Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein. Over the course of 2022, this collaboration grew significantly, with more German customers joining, and the quantities of ice cream sent to Germany increased slightly. We also participated in our first food fair in Germany to promote our products to German customers in Schleswig-Holstein.
The next major chapter in our German export adventure was written in 2023, when we began a new large collaboration with another German wholesaler. This time, Bos Food GmbH entered into a partnership with Kastbergs to sell our ice cream and sorbet, or as they would call it, “Eis und Sorbet,” to their customers in Germany. Bos Food is a wholesaler that deals with unique quality and gourmet products primarily for professional chefs through their online shop.
For professional chefs in search of unique and high-quality ingredients, Bos Food GmbH is one of the best German food wholesalers. With a wide range of products and ingredients aimed at premium customers, this company, over 30 years old, is known for its large selection of top-quality foods and reliable service.
Bos Food GmbH was founded in 1989 by Stefan Bos and is a comprehensive wholesaler for raw materials to more than 20,000 premium customers, primarily in Germany. They support food professionals such as restaurants, hotels, and catering companies. Bos Food’s range of food and beverages includes over 12,000 specialties, from gourmet cheeses and truffles to fish, meat, vegetables, and now, gourmet ice cream from Kastbergs. With many partners in the food industry, their products are of the highest quality.
Bos Food is now the leading delicatessen supplier in Germany. More than 170 highly motivated employees send out about 2,000 orders daily from a product portfolio of over 12,000 specialties from around the world. Over 20,000 customers, including specialty retailers and top restaurants in Germany, are currently loyal customers of Bos Food.
With expert advice from their own specialists and customer-optimized services, such as delivery within 24 hours without a minimum order value, Bos Food set new standards in the industry and became the favorite supplier for top-class restaurants, whether it’s caviar, oysters, foie gras, wine, or vinegar, oil, and salt – and now, gourmet ice cream. Bos Food is now considered synonymous with the trade in delicacies, both for restaurateurs and gourmets. The company’s website (www.bosfood.de) was named the best ordering portal in the German food trade (magazine Tomorrow).
As mentioned, Bos Food handles everything from caviar, oysters, and foie gras to wine, vinegar, oil, and exciting spices. A large number of smaller items and product codes. Many items for both cold storage and normal storage. Kastbergs will be one of the few frozen products, as well as one of the physically largest items in its 5-liter ice cream buckets. Therefore, this specialty wholesaler had to figure out if it was possible to ship a frozen product using their shipping methods. They send their packages with a courier service, similar to GLS or UPS, and include dry ice if necessary to keep the goods cold. The question was whether this would be enough to keep the ice cream and sorbet frozen. A good solution has been found, and Bos Food can now send Kastbergs Gourmet Ice Cream packages to customers throughout Germany. This means that Kastbergs now has a supplier that covers this large market and can therefore send ice cream throughout Germany.
This is a huge step in the right direction for Kastbergs’ expansion into the German market. We are very proud to supply ice cream to Bos Food, as this itself sends a message to our target audience in Germany that we are serious and that our products are of very high quality. This is primarily due to Bos Food’s reputation in Germany as a supplier of gourmet products of various kinds. It is also a wholesaler that chefs look forward to receiving packages from because they know it will always be good and exciting products coming from them.
