5 things to consider

Many more things could be mentioned that are worth considering before you decide where to go for a good ice cream, but we also know that a visit to an ice-cream shop is often a spontaneous decision. So we will stick to the simplest and most obvious considerations

Location

Location is naturally worth considering, since it is a longer trip if you have to travel from one end of the city to the other. Your chosen ice-cream shop should preferably be close to where you work or where you live. You may also be out on a short trip, sightseeing or simply on a weekend break, in which case it could be a good idea to look for a place to stop for ice cream in an area where you would like to spend a little extra time, because it perhaps has something extra to offer. Here we have several good options and retailers in attractive and inviting locations in Copenhagen, which we will come back to shortly.

Customer reviews

As with so many other things, a quick check of customer reviews on, for example, Trustpilot or similar can be a good indicator of whether a product is worth buying or an ice-cream shop is worth visiting. So do check the reviews before you decide. You can also look at the company's Google Business page, which will typically appear when you search for the company.

Price

Price certainly matters to many people, because who wants to pay the price of a fighter jet for a couple of scoops of ice cream? So it should also be taken into account. Of course, you want to pay for quality, and perhaps it is better to pay 5 kroner extra for a waffle cone with really good ice cream than to pay a little less for a flavourless, crystallised one?

Quality and brand

These two things are naturally closely linked. So find out whether there is an ice-cream shop in the area you would like to visit that sells one of your favourite ice creams. We would of course like to encourage you to visit one of the many ice-cream shops around the country, including a number in Copenhagen, that sell Kastbergs Gourmet-Is.

Selection

Selection may seem self-explanatory, and it is not always possible to tell from an ice-cream shop's website what range it carries, but all things being equal, it is important to consider whether they have flavours that suit you and your preferences.

The Hercules Pavilion

When you arrive at Herkules, you quickly realise that you have come to a place that is historic, beautiful and very special, in the best possible way. The pavilion was originally built for King Christian IV as a private pleasure house and stands at the end of the Kavalergangen path in the King's Garden. Its present architecture dates from 1773, when the Hercules Pavilion was restored. It was then, among other things, that it gained its characteristic square niche in the middle of the building, where the statue of Hercules was placed, flanked by Tuscan columns on either side. Since 1999 the pavilion has been used as, among other things, a cultural café, and today it houses a café and an ice-cream shop during the summer months. We are honoured that such a historic place sells our ice cream. The location of the pavilion makes it a great spot to enjoy a delicious ice cream, as you can admire the beautiful architecture of the building and the nearby castle, and of course take a walk or sit and relax in the lovely surroundings of the King's Garden with an ice cream in hand.

Ice cream parlor (Gothersgade)

Ice Cream Parlor on Gothersgade is a newly opened ice-cream shop, started by the company behind the Madklubben restaurant group, which also runs restaurants such as Hanzō, Frankies and Bistro Royale, the restaurant the ice-cream shop adjoins on Gothersgade. In late summer 2023, an opportunity arose to take over the small premises at Gothersgade 5, and they quickly jumped at it, as the location was excellent, and began to consider what it could be used for.

Pjerrot's Ice-Cream Shop

This ice-cream shop is well known for its mascot Pjerrot, based on the old Pierrot character. The large shop is located at Bakken and sells Kastbergs Gourmet-Is. They also sell lots of colourful slush ice, popcorn and sweets from all over the world. On top of that, you can get more than 200 different kinds of milkshake. So there are plenty of ways to satisfy a sweet tooth.

You now have some really good suggestions for where to go for a delicious ice cream and enjoy it in lovely surroundings in some of the most beautiful and historic parts of Copenhagen.
